MORE POWER TO INDIE AUTHORS

I'd be happy to share what I've learned over the past six months and to hear about your own experiences. We Indie authors are a unique but steadily growing tribe. From dedicated writer to published author. IT'S damned hard work but oh so worth it. I've just about been glued to my office chair for weeks- months on end. My family are practically starving to death. Not true.  They are all quite capable of cooking for themselves (& me). Hmm sometimes more than others.

 Soo many things to learn about branding. promoting & marketing. Soo many sites to check out. And while I'd love to say I've sold thousand of books- I'm quietly confident it will happen. And in the meantime they are selling slowly.

That elusive thing: time

Life in North Queensland can have its drawbacks. Our lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are interspersed with rain, rain and more rain. By March, time oozes by in a sticky stream, as we wait impatiently for the wet season, with its steamy interludes when the sun comes out and the temperature soars, the bug invasion, (our bushy nine acres is an entomologists paradise) to come to an end. So bearing in mind that my last post was in July 2009- how did it get to be March 2010? Answer. Travelling, Family, Writing (I'm well into researching and writing the first draft of my second novel) and working. In fact nothing whatsoever to do with the seasons. My full time on call job of T.A. to other half in building our house is a labour of love, but doesn't leave room for all the other things I want to pack into my life. STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

AUTHOR OR BUSINESS PERSON? You can be an artist & still have a good head for business Your books are launched, first flurry of sales has slowed, so what now? What happens now separates the authors from the business people. Gone are the days when one of the big publishing houses looked after your marketing. Now its DIY promoting or you are on that slippery downhill slope to obscurity. As well as living in the age of self-publishing we also live in the age of online opportunities. Okay so there might be a million other books out there to compete with yours, HOW DO YOU MAKE YOURS STAND OUT? Hard work & perseverance is the short answer. Let’s break that down.
